Background
Michael
Duplantier
is a native and life-long resident of New Orleans. His
undergraduate studies focused on a pre-law curriculum. He received his
Juris Doctor degree from Loyola University New Orleans in 1970. He was
a
member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and Phi Kappa Theta
Fraternity. Mr. Duplantier served Phi Kappa Theta as Chairman of the
Board and National President of the fraternity. He has accrued 24 hours
of course credit toward a graduate degree from the University of New
Orleans College of Urban and Public Affairs. He has a long record of
community involvement and volunteerism. Mr. Duplantier is married with
two grown sons.
A practicing
attorney and notary public
since 1970, Michael Duplantier has been in private solo practice for
most of his legal career. Michael Duplantier also served as a special
counsel to the Attorney General for environmental protection, and as
special counsel to the New Orleans City Attorney, representing the
Vieux Carre Commission and the City of New Orleans Historic District
Commissions. His work in New Orleans has included considerable
experience in matters of urban planning, zoning and neighborhood
preservation; public interest counsel and litigation; drafting
legislation; forum panelist; lecturing; service on public committees,
commissions and non-profit board of directors; scores of appearances
and presentations before legislative and public entities; and political
work on behalf of candidates for public office.
For
more than twenty years, the law practice of Michael Duplantier has been
concentrated in the fields of elder law, wills, probate, estates and
succession law. He is admitted to practice in all Louisiana state
courts.
